Butterfly and bee on buddleia

Who are we?

Wildflower Promotions is a small business dedicated to doing what we can to help our British wildflowers and the butterflies, bees and other insects that depend on them for their survival. We supply recycled wildflower seed packets for promotional and corporate services, business events, weddings, charity events etc.  The environment is in a sorry state with bees and butterfly numbers declining, some on the verge of extinction, as well as the wildflowers and natural habitats.  Anything that can be done to help reverse this situation, however small, will help.  Businesses can reach so many people with their advertising and corporate events that they, ie, you (!) can help reverse this sad trend towards decline and extinction.  You will also get a lovely warm fuzzy feeling inside for knowing you have done your bit to help the environment!

What do we do?

We supply printed seed packets made from quality recycled paper, to our specification. We can print anything you like on them and you can also choose the seeds you would like!  Past customers have included White Stuff, Boden, Wildlife Trusts, Bumblebee Conservation, universities, charities, hospices, Bee Garden Party, Royal Entomoligcal Society – to name but a tiny few!  All keen to help the environment!

Not only that, we also supply a variety of seeded paper shapes cut from the plantable seed papers we stock.  We also do short print runs on seed paper.

How eco-friendly are we?

As much as we can possibly be! All of our wildflower seeds are of native UK origin. We do not buy them in from Europe where the mixes are not entirely of British species. We only supply seeds that are of British wildflowers, and therefore suitable for our climate and insects.

The company that makes our seed packets is FSC certified (although the paper itself does not have an FSC chain of custody).  We are also switching from plastic seed sachets to glassine in the near future.

Our paper has been chosen carefully from suppliers who operate in an environmentally-friendly manner and, in the case of lokta paper, who trade fairly and operate ethically. Some of our papers are made in the UK, our Lokta paper is made in a village in Nepal.  Wherever possible, packaging is re-used and all our paperwork is printed on recycled paper. Paper scraps are composted.

We support charities too!

The wedding side of our business has a large selection of charity seed packet wedding favours, where a donation from every packet sold goes to that particular charity.  These charities include Action Against Hunger, Bumblebee Conservation,  Tree Aid, Friends of the Earth, Butterfly Conservation, Sheep Ahoy, Plantlife, Buglife, Bat Conservation, and Elephant Family.  These are charities very close to our heart and in need of support to help continue their good work.  One charity we are particularly fond of is The Seahorse Trust – a small charity that does great work in trying to help save seahorses, who will be extinct in 30 years if the trade in them for jewellery, medicine, pets and trinkets is allowed to continue as it does at the moment.

Why should you use eco-friendly promotional products?

Wildflowers and the creatures that depend on them for their survival are in serious decline and it is, therefore, important that we all do all we can to preserve these species for future generations. It is also important from the point of view of the wildlife who feed on these wildflowers: no wildflowers = no wildlife.

Having had a wildflower nursery for many years, we know what we are talking about when it comes to wildflowers!  We can’t stress enough the importance of every garden having a patch of wildflowers – you can help spread the word by encouraging your clients, customers, fundraisers etc to also grow wildflowers.  It is time that people got out of the mindset that wildflowers are weeds – they are there to feed our native insects!  Take, for example, the Dandelion – TV advertising will encourage you to destroy these pretty wildflowers but they are an important nectar source for bees, particularly emerging bees in the spring when very few other plants are flowering.  Our blogs will be regularly providing advice on wildlife gardening and wildflowers, which we hope will inspire you to give seeds as a promotional gift rather than a boring old plastic pen which will ultimately add to landfill.
